Oakland Woman Killed In Crash Identified

The New Year's Day hit-and-run crash killed a young woman.

OAKLAND, CA — A woman who was killed in a hit-and-run collision in East Oakland on New Year's Day has been identified as 18-year-old Chauntel Theresa Dunkley-Rochelle of Oakland, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau.

At about 5 a.m., Dunkley-Rochelle was in the north side crosswalk at 98th Avenue and Sunnyside Street when she was struck and killed by a speeding vehicle traveling south on 98th Avenue, police said.

The vehicle, a dark-colored sedan, fled the scene heading south, police said.

Dunkley-Rochelle was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, police said.

Police have not yet determined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

The suspect remains at large and police have announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
