
OAKLAND, CA - A man struck and killed by a van while crossing a street in Oakland’s Chinatown District on Friday morning was identified today as a 78-year-old Oakland resident.
Jerry Cheung was struck at the corner of Seventh and Franklin streets, a block from Oakland police headquarters, at about 8:15 a.m., according to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau.
Cheung was in a crosswalk when he was hit by a van headed east on Seventh Street, police said. He was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later. The van driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
