Pregnant Women Still Needed for a Study About Calcium
Dr. Ellen Fung and associates at the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland are seeking pregnant women to participate in a calcium study.
What is the study about?
The Calcium Absorption in Pregnancy (CAP) study is looking at the effect of ethnicity on how well the body takes up calcium during late pregnancy. We are doing this study to see if the current dietary recommendations for calcium are high enough to prevent bone loss during pregnancy.

If eligible after the initial screening, we will ask that you come to the PCRC twice during your third trimester of pregnancy (30-36 weeks). We will collect a fasting blood sample, give you two types of calcium, one to drink and one by vein and have you eat a small breakfast. The following morning you will return to the PCRC for a blood draw to measure the amount of calcium in your blood.
What will you receive?
For the completion of the study, you will receive a $60 Target gift card.
Are you eligible?
We are looking for individuals who are:
- Between 30-36 weeks pregnant
- 18 to 45 years of age
Certain medications and history of medical conditions are excluded.
