Preventing Another Oakland Hills Fire: City's Plan

OAKLAND, CA —The Oakland Fire Department is asking for input on a new plan to protect areas that could be damaged by severe wildfires.
The vegetation management plan is in the draft stage and would apply to more than 1,900 acres and 300 miles of public roadways in need of improvement, according to the city.
"The plan has been prepared with stakeholder input and aims to balance the need to protect lives and property with the need to maintain a thriving ecosystem in the East Bay hills," Oakland Fire Chief Darin White said in a statement.

The city will host a public meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Hearing Room 3 at City Hall at 1 Frank Ogawa Plaza. The plan is available online.
Public review and comment opened on May 11 and comments will be accepted until June 11. Interested residents can email their comments to vmpcomments@oaklandvegmanagement.org.
