The annual fundraising bicycle ride leaves from in front of Oakland Tech on Saturday morning, with check-in beginning at 5:30 a.m.

Students from Rockrige area schools, and their parents, will "Ride for a Reason" on Saturday, May 11, covering more than 100 miles by bike from Oakland to Sacramento in support of education.
It's the fifth year for the fundraising event, which was started by a group of North Oakland parents. Last year, 150 biycle riders took part. It's coordinated by the Claremont Middle School PtA.
Funds raised through registration fees and pledges will be split aong the parent groups for four North Oakland schools — Claremont Middle School, Oakland Technical High School, Emerson Elementary School and Oakland International High School — and used to provide enrichment activities for students.

Riders select from three routes, leaving from Oakland (109 miles), Suisun (67 miles) and Vacaville (45 miles). Once in Sacramento, the riders head to the state Capitol to rally for increased state funding for education.
Volunteers provide refreshments and logistics support along the way, and chartered buses bring the riders home.
