Substitute Teacher's Life Saved By Fellow Staff
The teacher suffered a heart attack on his first day of instruction at Skyline High School.

OAKLAND, CA — A substitute teacher who suffered a heart attack while checking in for his first day of instruction in January will re-visit the school this morning to thank staff for saving his life, the Oakland Unified School District said.
Substitute teacher Mike Metz will reunite with Skyline High School staff at 8:30 a.m. today to express his appreciation for resuscitating him after he collapsed in the front office, district officials said.
Staff called 911, performed CPR and used a defibrillator to revive Metz. He was taken to a hospital and spent several days in a coma before fully recovering from the ordeal, district officials said.

"I know there is no way to ever fully thank these heroes for their selfless actions, but I want to properly thank them in person," said Metz in a statement.
The staff members will be recognized for their bravery at the district's school board meeting on April 25, the district said.
