The writer likes the mix of new arrivals plus ethnic cuisines "that have anchored this area for generations."

The Forbes magazine website put the Temescal Tastes food tour offered by Edible Excursions at the top of its recently published list of five great food tours for summertime.

"Until Edible Excursions started this tour a few months ago, the edgy, 'transitional' Temescal neighborhood of north Oakland was uncharted territory to all but adventurous hipsters and foodie fanatics," the author writes.

"Now, thanks to savvy guides Lisa Rogovin, founder of Edible Excursions, and noted food writer Sarah Henry, it’s not so hard to get the lay of the land...

"Your visits aren’t limited to the well-marketed new arrivals; you also explore a few of the ethnic cuisines that have anchored this area for generations, such as Sura Korean Cuisine, home of obsessively fresh banchan, and Abesha Ethiopian Cuisine, where the ginger-garlic-jalapeno lamb stew Yebeg Alisha Wot alone is worth a trip."
