What's Your Stance On Soundwalls?

Rockridge residents are debating on whether soundwalls should be installed to help block sound from Highway 24, which cuts though the neighborhood. 

In a meeting on the issue last month, residents mostly showed support for the walls.

"I am delighted that at long last, our lower Rockridge neighborhood will have a chance to get sound walls to reduce the ever-present freeway noise we live with 24/6," North OaklandTheresa Nelson resident wrote into Inside Bay Area in September.

At least one resident has voice opposition to the potential soundwalls. Resident Jon Gabel put up the website, Rockridgesoundwalls.org, which lists several reason why the city should not invest in the sound-blocking walls. One of those reasons is that the walls will be pricey, and they might not actually block highway noise.

The discussion of having soundwalls installed in Rockridge was left open-ended as the city of Oakland considers a $1.4 million study to determine soundwall feasibility in Rockridge.
