SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Police say a pre-dawn vandalism spree damaged nearly 50 vehicles and may have hit even more.

Security video first captured a man in dark clothing carrying the red bag as he moved through the Railroad Square district, where dozens of vehicles were vandalized in the early morning hours.

Santa Rosa police arrested 32-year-old Keith Johnson after officers responded to a report of a man puncturing tires inside a garage on East Jasmine Circle, according to police.

Officers found a bright red shopping bag seen in security footage, several knives, another person’s identifying information, and other items, Santa Rosa said in a news release on social media.

Police said they also suspect Johnson may have vandalized an office on Jennings Avenue, where a window was shattered.

Authorities booked Johnson into Sonoma County’s Main Adult Detention Facility on suspicion of felony vandalism, burglary, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, possession of another person’s identifying information and violating probation. Police said he was already on probation for a prior conviction involving possession of a "dirk or dagger."

Detectives continue to collect surveillance footage and identify more potential victims.

Anyone with overnight security video should contact Det. Cody Sousa. Unreported vehicle damage should be reported to Santa Rosa police by citing the case number 26-4334.
