SANTA ROSA, CA – A man with over a dozen prior arrests for vehicle theft was again accused of stealing a vehicle in Santa Rosa on Saturday night and damaging two police cruisers.
The alleged victim was a DoorDash food delivery driver who got out of their running vehicle to make a delivery in the 500 block of 4th Street at about 9 p.m.
That's when Sergio Villalobos Espinoza, a man with 13 previous arrests for auto theft in Sonoma County and Mendocino County, got in and drove off, according to a statement from the Santa Rosa Police Department.
Police allegedly found Villalobos Espinoza driving the vehicle nearby about an hour later. He was accused of leading officers on a chase and damaging two marked police cruisers by ramming them.
He was eventually blocked in a residential area and taken into custody.
A Sonoma County Sheriff's Office helicopter also responded to the scene, police said. Villalobos Espinoza was booked into Sonoma County Jail on several allegations, including felony assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
