ROHNERT PARK-COTATI, CA — A sheriff's deputy was inured while trying to take down a man in rural Rohnert Park.
Deputies responded around 7 p.m. Wednesday to the 4800 block of Petaluma Hill Road after a caller reported a man he suspected of checking gates and residential doors.
A deputy who responded to the call found Felix Barradas Moreno, 32, of Santa Rosa.
He matched the description provided to dispatch and was the only person seen walking nearby, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.
Moreno, who was on probation, allegedly refused commands, repeatedly concealed his hands, and then ran from the deputy.
The deputy chased Moreno a short distance before forcing him to the ground, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators said Moreno continued fighting with the deputy during a struggle. A second deputy arrived and helped restrain Moreno.
After being taken to a local hospital to treat minor injuries, Moreno was booked into jail. There staff discovered he was carrying what they suspected to be methamphetamine.
Moreno was booked on suspicion of violating his probation, and being in possession of a controlled substance. He remains in custody without bail.
The deputy injured during the struggle suffered a fracture to his left elbow.
