SANTA ROSA, CA — A Santa Rosa man was arrested early Saturday after police found a loaded handgun in his possession during a traffic enforcement stop, authorities said.
A Santa Rosa police officer stopped a bicyclist in the 400 block of Boyd Street at about 12:38 a.m. Saturday for a vehicle code violation, according to police.
During the stop, the officer observed the handle of a firearm protruding from an unzipped cross-body bag worn by the bicyclist, identified as Andrew Garcia-Silva, 21.
Police said Garcia-Silva fled on foot when the officer attempted to detain him. He was apprehended after a brief pursuit without further incident.
Authorities recovered a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun. Police said Garcia-Silva was not the firearm's registered owner, and the investigation into how he obtained the weapon remains ongoing.
Garcia-Silva was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a concealed firearm, and resisting arrest.
