ROHNERT PARK-COTATI, CA — A stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee triggered a chain of events in Rohnert Park on Monday morning, ending with two arrests, a K-9 search, and the recovery of a vehicle reported stolen out of Santa Rosa.
Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety officers arrested two men Monday after a Flock automated license plate reader alerted dispatchers to a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling near Rohnert Park Expressway and Labath Avenue.
Officers responded to the area and found the black Jeep occupied by two men in the Rancho Feliz Mobile Home Park, authorities said.
Patrol stopped the men. One ran from the vehicle and jumped fences into neighboring residential yards. The second suspect remained behind and was found hiding in the rear of the Jeep, police said.
With help from a Sonoma County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit, officers searched the neighborhood and located the fleeing suspect hiding beneath a storage tote in the yard of a nearby home.
Police identified the suspects as Hector Santana, 40, of Santa Rosa, and Anatolio Barocio, 45, of Petaluma.
Santana was booked on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest, according to police.
Barocio was booked on suspicion of possession of suspected methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic controlled substance with qualifying priors, possession of a stolen vehicle, violation of a court order, and resisting arrest.
Authorities said the Jeep will be returned to its owner.
