MENDOCINO COUNTY — A 31-year-old Covelo woman was found dead on Thursday after apparently being shot multiple times at a suspected illicit cannabis farm in Mendocino County.
The woman's body was found in a pickup truck in the 22000 block of Rifle Range Road, in an unincorporated area northwest of Covelo, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said on Saturday.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene by a family member of the unidentified victim, who told deputies she and other relatives had been looking for the victim after she went missing that day.
The relative told deputies she went to the alleged cannabis farm to try to find the victim after suspecting she might be there and found her at about 9 p.m. in a silver 2007 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.
She had been shot multiple times and was declared dead after sheriff's deputies and investigators from the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office and state Department of Justice arrived on scene.
The Sheriff's Office said in a statement that there were "numerous suspects" and that the involvement of the cannabis farm and its operators were being investigated.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to contact the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office at (707) 463-4086.
