SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Sonoma County authorities recovered suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, and illegal firearms in two separate investigations this month, resulting in felony arrests.
The two cases, announced separately by the Santa Rosa Police Department and the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, underscore efforts to disrupt narcotics trafficking while targeting illegal firearm possession.
In the most recent case, Santa Rosa police arrested 31-year-old Novato resident Travis Wine after a traffic stop on July 24 in the 2200 block of Cleveland Avenue.
At about 6:11 p.m., officers assigned to the Santa Rosa Police Department's Special Enforcement Team stopped a large passenger van that had been converted into a workspace. During the investigation, officers spotted a marijuana joint inside the vehicle and smelled both fresh and burnt marijuana. Officers also noticed a person apparently hiding in the rear workspace and requested assistance from an SRPD K-9 team.
After removing Wine and two passengers from the van, officers searched the vehicle and recovered a loaded, stolen Glock 43 9mm handgun, several rounds of 9mm ammunition, about 1 ounce of suspected cocaine, and approximately 6 ounces of suspected methamphetamine, police said.
According to SRPD, Wine is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition and is a documented criminal street gang participant.
Wine was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on felony charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of a controlled substance for sale, and transportation of a controlled substance for sale.
The Special Enforcement Team was created to combat illegal firearm possession and gun violence in Santa Rosa.
One week earlier, on July 17, a Sonoma County sheriff's deputy and K-9 partner Benji stopped 39-year-old Santa Rosa resident Luis Plancarte-Montejano for a vehicle code violation.
The deputy knew Plancarte-Montejano was on Post Release Community Supervision, making him subject to warrantless search and seizure conditions.
A search of his vehicle uncovered about three pounds of suspected methamphetamine in the trunk, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.
Narcotics detectives later searched Plancarte-Montejano's residence, where they recovered an unserialized firearm and ammunition.
Plancarte-Montejano was booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance for sale, violation of probation, and violation of the terms of his Post Release Community Supervision. He remained in custody without bail because of his probation status.
Combined, the two investigations resulted in the seizure of roughly 3 pounds and 6 ounces of suspected methamphetamine, about 1 ounce of suspected cocaine, two firearms — including one reported stolen and another without a serial number — and ammunition.
Both agencies said the investigations were part of ongoing efforts to reduce the flow of illegal narcotics and firearms into Sonoma County communities.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said its dedicated narcotics unit was reinstalled in 2024 in response to growing drug activity.
In 2025, investigators announced what they described as the unit's largest seizure on record, confiscating roughly 500 pounds of methamphetamine.
