SANTA ROSA, CA — A mountain lion was spotted Sunday on trails at Nagasawa Park, prompting Santa Rosa police to urge hikers, parkgoers and nearby residents to use caution.
The large mountain lion was seen in the morning, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department. Officials said the hills around Santa Rosa are natural habitat for mountain lions but advised people to be especially careful with young children and pets.
Police said anyone who encounters a mountain lion should not run. Instead, they should make themselves appear as large as possible by raising and waving their arms and speaking in a loud, firm voice.
Police asked the public to call 911 to report any sighting or encounter.
