Explosions Reported Before Sonoma County House Fire Displaces 6: FD

SANTA ROSA, CA — Six people, including a child, were displaced Thursday when a fire tore through a two-story Santa Rosa home, fire officials said.

Firefighters were called to a home on the 900 block of Kingwood Street just before 3 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from both floors.

All six residents were home when the fire started but escaped before firefighters arrived, officials said. The residents reported hearing explosions coming from the backyard before the blaze.

Crews searched the house and confirmed no one remained inside.

The fire also caused radiant heat damage to the exterior walls of neighboring homes, though firefighters reported no interior damage to those properties.

The American Red Cross is assisting the five adults and one child who were displaced.

Officials did not announce what caused the fire.
