ROHNERT PARK-COTATI, CA — Rohnert Park's youth baseball team rallied for a 5-4 walk-off victory over Colombia on Thursday, securing a spot in the Cal Ripken World Series consolation bracket semifinals when Benjamin Child drove home two runs with a double, the Argus-Courier reported.
The Rohnert Park team, made up of players 12 and younger, trailed 4-0 after Colombia scored four runs in the third inning in Branson, Missouri.
Rohnert Park began its comeback with two runs in the fourth, cutting Colombia's lead in half.
Colombia carried a 4-2 advantage into the bottom of the sixth and final inning.
After Rohnert Park opened the inning with a pop-out, Vincent Breining hit a solo home run to cut the deficit to one run, according to the Argus-Courrier. Justin Collins followed with a double, putting the tying run in scoring position.
Clutch Crawford then drew a walk, putting the winning run on base. Colombia intentionally walked Ryker Hoburg to load the bases, the Courrier reported. Child answered with the game-winning double, scoring two runs and giving Rohnert Park the 5-4 victory.
Rohnert Park will play Lowell, Massachusetts, at noon Friday in the semifinal round, the Argus Courrier reported.
The "Iron Man" consolation bracket features teams that did not advance from last week's group stage to the main bracket. The consolation bracket concludes Saturday.
