SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Investigators are examining whether a bicycle crash reported Sunday night is connected to the death of a person found along a ditch on Guerneville Road about 12 hours later.
Authorities discovered the person near Guerneville and Frei roads, east of Graton, today at about 7:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The death appeared to involve a hit-and-run, but investigators do not yet know if the person was walking or cycling before being struck, according to reports. CHP has not yet released the person's identity.
"There is a possible associated bicycle with major damage that was located one-two miles away" from the body, The Press Democrat reported.
The driver of a dark-colored Honda told CHP dispatchers around 8:45 p.m. Sunday that she had struck a bicycle lying in the road near Guerneville and Frei roads, The Press Democrat reported.
The driver told CHP that she moved the bicycle to the roadside and was passing along the information, The Press Democrat reported.
Investigators closed the eastbound lane of Guerneville Road in the area while they examined the death and the earlier report.
