SONOMA COUNTY, CA — PG&E warned customers Saturday afternoon that it could shut off power to prevent wildfires as it monitors fire conditions in the area.
"A Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is possible," the utility announced at about 1:30 p.m.
The shutoff may still be needed this weekend as wildfire risks shift in Santa Rosa, according to PG&E's warning message.
PG&E urged customers to check whether a shutoff might affect their address and warned that severe weather could also cause unplanned outages.
The warning follows PG&E's earlier notification that roughly 12,200 customers across 17 Northern California counties could lose power amid elevated wildfire risk.
The shutoffs remain uncertain and depend on weather conditions, according to the announcement.
Saturday's forecast calls for low humidity and wind gusts of 30 to 45 mph, with gusts reaching 55 mph in parts of the Northern Sierra. Elevated wildfire risk could continue through Monday.
If shutoffs occur, PG&E will open Community Resource Centers offering chargers, Wi-Fi, water, snacks, blankets, accessible restrooms, medical device support, and outage information. Service animals are welcome.
