SEBASTOPOL, CA — Sebastopol police said they had responded to nearly 100 incidents involving a 62-year-old man since January after arresting him again Thursday for violating court-ordered release conditions.
Officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the downtown plaza area around 10:30 a.m. Thursday involving Eric Anderson, according to the Sebastopol Police Department.
As officers left the police station to respond, they saw Anderson walking onto the department's front lawn. Police said Anderson told them he had been at the plaza.
Officers determined Anderson had violated felony pretrial release conditions prohibiting him from coming within 100 yards of the Sebastopol Plaza. Police said they had previously requested the restriction to support public safety downtown.
He was arrested and taken to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office jail for booking.
Police said they first encountered Anderson in January and had responded to just under 100 incidents related to his conduct over the ensuing 10 months. Many of those responses resulted in his arrest and transport to jail, the department said.
The department acknowledged community frustration when people are arrested and later released, noting that decisions about continued detention and release are made by courts and other parts of the criminal justice system.
"Our role is to respond, investigate and take appropriate enforcement action within the confines of the law and constitution," the department said.
