SANTA ROSA, CA — A Santa Rosa man was arrested on Friday after allegedly assaulting a woman and preventing her from running away.
Vicente Perez was taken into custody by Santa Rosa police officers who responded to a call about a woman being attacked on Wilson Street, near Sixth Street, at about 3:25 p.m., according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.
One officer was on foot nearby, making patrols as part of the Police Department's Downtown Enforcement Team. He and other officer who responded allegedly witnessed Perez assaulting the victim and trying to grab her belt.
Officers took Perez to the ground, but he allegedly still refused to let go of the victim's belt as she struggled to get free.
Police were able to separate them and Perez was arrested.
He was accused of false imprisonment, sexual battery, and resisting a peace officer.
Perez was booked into Sonoma County Jail.
The victim, a woman in her 30s, was evaluated for injuries and did not require medical attention, according to the Police Department.
