All-League Spotlight: Rosemont's Richard Mayberry

The Rosemont High School basketball player was named to the Metro League's "All-League" team.

’s is developing a reputation that precedes him on the court. And his coach likes it.

“He was seen as a dangerous shooter who could really change the game by hitting a three,” said Frank Maestas, head coach for the Wolverines’ varsity boys basketball team. “We’re hopeful that’s the kind of thing that will inspire other young guys to work on their shot and become better basketball players.”

Mayberry, a junior guard, was named to the Metro League’s "All-League" team last week. Maestas said when the Metro League coaches met to discuss the top players, Mayberry’s shooting was mentioned.

“With this award [other players will] see this is the kind of thing that can really be recognized,” Maestas said.

According to MaxPreps.com, Mayberry averaged 8.2 points per game this season and had 20 three-pointers, more than twice as many as any other player on the team.

Aside from this award putting "a target on [Mayberry] as a shooter," the junior will also have to recover from a knee injury if he's to play next season.
