Cougars Unstoppable in Dixon
Number 13 may be unlucky for some but not for the Cougars boys basketball team.
The Capital Christian Boys basketball team travelled to Dixon Wednesday night to face the Rams in their own "Barnyard." The game was expected to be a real challenge for the Cougars, who had sneaked passed the Rams two weeks ago in front of a packed Cougar Den and .
That game ended with a 76-68 Cougar victory. The Rams were averaging 70 points a game just as the Cougars were, so expectations were high. The Rams got off to a great start leading the Cougars 7-2 midway into the first quarter.
Then the whole game changed - Coach Terry Battenberg bought in outstanding post men Nifae Lealao and Trey Belton. The Cougars fought back to be just one point down 14-15 at the end of the first quarter. Senior Matt Donlan had 9 of those 14 points and Nifae Lealao had the remaining 5 in just 4 minutes of playing time.

The second quarter was outstanding for the Cougars and heartbreaking for the Rams. The Rams were held to just 2 free throws for the entire 8 minutes while the Cougars swept past with another 14 point quarter. The Rams could not shoot acurately under the tight Cougar defense shooting 0 of 4 from the perimeter and 0 of 4 from inside. The Cougars pulled down almost all the rebounds led by Sophomore DJ Wilson who was a rebounding machine on the night pulling in 10 rebounds for the game.
The Cougars dominated the boards, shot accurately and pressured the ball through the talented guardplay of Tyler Jennings, Marcelas Perry and Justice Shelton-Mosely.

Any expectation of a Ram fightback was soon dashed in the third quarter when the talented Cougars poured on a 19-point quarter while allowing the Rams just 9. The Rams were held to just 32 points on the night - far short of their average 70 point game.
The final score saw the Cougars victorious 63-32. The Cougars remain undefeated in the Golden Empire League and are 7-0 in league play, 20-4 overall and undefeated in their last 13 games. Friday night the Cougars have their last road game of the league with a trip to Mesa Verde HS in Citrus Heights. Next week the Cougars host West Campus on Wednesday night and then league rival Lindhurst on Friday night, once again in front of the Access Sacramento cameras and the lively commentary of Will James.
Donlan 19, Belton 11, Wilson 9, Lealao 7, Aibuedefe 6, Perry 3, Irogebu, Garza, Shelton-Mosely and Nissen all had 2 each.
