Capital Christian Middle School Goes to Hollywood

Arts students from Capital Christian presented their annual show on Thursday night.

Students from gave their audience the Hollywood experience in their “Hooray for Hollywood” performance and exhibit on Thursday night.

This was the first time the middle school students were given their own show, which they previously shared with the high school students.

The middle school’s principal, Donna Hagemyer, said she was very excited for the show because the middle school students could not do as much when they had a joint show with the high school students.

Another first for the show is the dance class, which was just added as an elective this year. They performed dances to "Singin’ in the Rain" and "Jingle Bell Rock."

“Capital Christian has an outstanding athletic department and offers just about , and the visual arts department is really growing, but dance as a whole was missing in the visual and performing arts department,” said Leslie Hansen, the dance teacher. “After several conversations with the administration, I thought it was a great opportunity.”

Hansen said she is happy that the middle school students had a chance to shine on their own, with their own performance.

The drama class performed a play called “The Golden Ticket to Hollywood,” a play the students wrote that mocked the show American Idol.

“I think they are excited to perform,” Diana Nance, the school’s drama teacher, said before the show. “I think they’re ready for tonight and it’s a great experience for them to be able to perform in front of people.”

The choir performed songs from movies, including the "Hooray for Hollywood Medley," "You’ve Got a Friend in Me," "Somewhere Out There," "Beauty School Dropout" and "American Bandstand."

The school’s band performed theme songs from Superman, Jurassic Park, Titanic and Back to the Future.

“They’re doing very well,” Hagemyer said. “They are a very polished group.”

A display wall created an exhibit for all of the art students and included photographs, drawings and sculptures. The home economics students provided the concession snacks for visitors.

Hagemyer said approximately 300 people came out to watch the show and was very happy with the turnout.

“We are proud of our visual and arts students performing tonight, so we’re really excited,” Hagemyer said.
