The 50 year old tragically ran a stop sign and was hit by a big rig driven by a Dixon man, CHP said.

The Solano County coroner’s office has identified a bicycle rider who died when he was struck by a big-rig Saturday as 50-year-old Ronald Cortez of Rocklin.
Cortez was participating in an organized bicycle ride known as the Davis Double Century, according to the California Highway Patrol. The 200-mile ride that begins and ends in Davis goes through Yolo, Solano, Napa and Lake counties, according to the race’s website.
Cortez failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Sparling Lane and Tremont Road in unincorporated Solano County adjacent to Interstate Highway 80 southwest of Davis around 5:10 a.m., CHP officials said.

He was riding north on Tremont Road, which has a stop sign at the intersection, when he was hit by a Kenworth big-rig pulling a set of double trailers being driven east at 50 to 55 mph by 62-year-old Jose Rios of Dixon, according to the CHP.
Cortez was pronounced dead at 5:23 a.m., according to the coroner’s office. CHP officials said alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the collision. Sparling Lane was completely shut down for two and a half hours as a result of the fatality, according to the CHP. The race was rerouted at Tremont and Robben roads.
