Late-Night Attack Reported on Kiefer Boulevard

A man says he was beaten while walking near Kiefer Boulevard and South Port Drive.

A man was hospitalized this weekend after an alleged beating and robbery by six assailants near Kiefer Boulevard and South Port Drive, according to a recent Sacramento County Sheriff's Department crime log.

The man, whose name was not released by the sheriff's department, told authorities he was walking alone around 2 a.m. Sunday when six men attacked him, beating him with clubs.

He initially didn't want to go to the hospital or to involve law enforcement, the crime log states, calling his wife to pick him up. He then had several seizures, and his wife took him to the hospital and a police report was filed, the department said.

Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos said the fact that the victim initially didn't want to involve law enforcement means there might be more to the story.

"I mean, wouldn’t most ordinary, reasonable people who aren’t involved in any criminal activity and find themselves attacked immediately notify law enforcement?" Ramos said in an email. "My gut tells me 'yes.' "

Ramos declined to comment on whether the man was intoxicated at the time of the incident, "because it doesn’t alter the approach we take with respect to taking a report or investigating the situation."

Ramos said the victim "described the attackers as being six 'islanders' who referred to themselves as Tongan – no further description was given."
