Man Reports Carjacking When Girlfriend Borrows Car

A man allegedly "embellished" a report to authorities earlier this week.

A man who told authorities he had been carjacked had actually just let his girlfriend borrow his car, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos said earlier this week.

The man reported being carjacked at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday near Bradshaw and Old Placerville Roads, Ramos said.

The California Highway Patrol and several sheriff's department units found the car a short time later near the 8900 block of Folsom Boulevard, and detained the driver.

Ramos said that was when the CHP learned the original caller had "embellished" his report.

"It looks like when CHP stopped the car, it was discovered that the driver (female) was the original caller’s girlfriend," Ramos said in an email. "She had permission to use the car, too."

Ramos said it seemed that the original caller had just reported the carjacking after having an argument with his girlfriend. No arrests were made.
