Man Turns Himself in for 2007 Mira Del Rio Killing

A man was arrested Monday in connection with the 2007 stabbing just north of Rosemont.

A 22-year-old man was arrested after he confessed to a 2007 stabbing death just north of Rosemont, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department announced Monday.

Kirk Jared Rivers walked into a sheriff's department office Monday and said he was responsible for stabbing a man to death on Mira Del Rio Drive in May of 2007, the department said.

"Homicide detectives interviewed Rivers, and determined that there was sufficient evidence to believe that he was responsible for the incident," the department said in a press release.

The stabbing victim, 39-year-old John Pogacar, was found with stab wounds to his upper body. The department had never been able to name a suspect, the press release said.

Sheriff's department spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos declined to give any additional information about Rivers' interview with detectives, saying it might jeopardize a possible future trial.
