Neighbor Foils Suspected Rosemont Burglary

A Rosemont resident called authorities when something suspicious happened on Saturday.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of burglary over the weekend after a neighbor saw them scoping out a home in Rosemont and called the police, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department crime log.

Melvin Anderson, 20, Devante Brooks, 19, and a 14-year-old male were all arrested on Saturday. Anderson and Brooks are currently being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail on felony charges of attempted burglary, according to county records.

The incident started when a resident saw the trio "looking into the yard of [the victim's] residence" on Posada Way, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department crime log. The witness "knew the suspects did not live at the residence," the crime log states.

The three allegedly entered the backyard through the side gate, but were caught by deputies nearby. The department said Brooks was found nearby, Anderson was caught "running from the front yard of the residence," and the juvenile was apprehended while climbing over the backyard fence.

Authorities found one window screen removed and another "bent away from the window," the crime log states.

"A detective found a text message between [Brooks] and [Anderson] saying there was no one was home," the crime log states. "The message was sent shortly before [the neighbor] called 911."
