Rosemont's class of 2011 graduated Tuesday.

The fifth class of Wolverines received their diplomas Tuesday afternoon in a sun-baked ceremony at .

The ceremony was short and mostly light-hearted. The student speakers shared more jokes than tears, and some graduates tossed a beach ball around as a teacher tried to snatch it from the air.

Valedictorian Anel Zarate explained her title this way: "It pretty much means I'm the biggest nerd out of all of the people here."

But there were moments of serious reflection and looking toward the future.

"Graduating does not make us adults," Associated Student Body Vice President Amber Hartley said. "It just means we have to make our own decisions."

Sacramento City Unified School District Superintendent Jonathan Raymond encouraged the graduates to follow their passion and to take chances.

"Every time an opportunity or a challenge arises, you're going to learn a little more about yourself," Raymond said.
