RHS Student Collecting Socks and Underwear for Homeless Teens

A student is collecting donations for Project 680.

Collecting donations of socks and underwear may not be glamorous, but it's what a student is doing for local homeless teens.

Sara Schubert, a Rosemont freshman, set up a collection box in the school's front office. Students, parents and teachers can bring new, wrapped socks and underwear there until Friday.

"It sprang from a class project [where] we were supposed to think about a problem in our community," Sara said. "I've always sort of had a soft spot for homelessness and try to do whatever I can to help, so I tried to do that."

The collected items will go to Project 680, which helps homeless students in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District.

"Our goal is to collect 680 packages of underwear so that each student documented as “homeless” in the [Folsom Cordova Unified School District] will be able to basically have one week’s worth of new underwear," Project 680 says on its website.

Sara sad she knew about Project 680 because of a fundraiser with her church.

She said so far, the donations have only trickled in.

"My goal is at least one full box–a big box of donations," she said.
