Rosemont Going 'Boom' in the Night

Several Rosemont residents say they've been hearing loud explosions late at night, but no one seems to know where they're coming from.

Someone is having some late-night fun in Rosemont.

Patch user Sheila Green :

"Did anyone else hear the loud bang-type sounds late Monday night? Two bangs, then dogs barking, but no emergency vehicle sounds. Anyone know what it was?"

She wasn't the only one who heard it. Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos said the department received two calls about the noises Monday–one at 11:45 p.m. and one at 11:48 p.m.

The first caller, near Watt Avenue and Manlove Road, said he heard what sounded like two gunshots.

"Another caller reported two 'loud booms' – thinking it was mortars going off," Ramos said in an email. "That caller said it was an ongoing issue, usually heard once or twice a week."

Rosemont Patch has seen this mentioned before on Facebook, too. Still, Ramos said there isn't much else deputies can do.

"We responded to the area, and could not find anything going on," he said. "The area checked clear. Without anything further from any callers, there is no further action for us to take."

So it begs the question:
What is going on here? Is it some kind of makeshift fireworks testing range in a Rosemont backyard? And what can be done about it? Post your thoughts or concerns in the comments below.
