Rosemont May Switch Supervisor Districts (Video)

Five draft maps were released this week. Some propose Rosemont moving to another district, and one proposes splitting it into two districts.

Quick, which community is more like Rosemont: Foothill Farms or Isleton?

Under proposed maps released by the Sacramento County Registrar of Voters this week, Rosemont could switch county supervisor districts and be represented by the same supervisor who also oversees Arden Arcade, Carmichael and other areas.

Rosemont is currently a part of Sacramento County Supervisor Don Nottoli's sprawling District 5, stretching from Rancho Cordova to Galt and Isleton, but may switch districts and be represented by Supervisor Susan Peters, who also represents Arden Arcade, Carmichael and Foothill Farms.

The reason is 2010 census data showing that Nottoli's district has too many people. Every 10 years, the district borders are redrawn to keep an equal number of people in each, and Nottoli's district has 70,000 people too many, he told a crowd at the earlier this month.

Residents are encouraged to provide their input on the proposed redistricting plans. Comments can be posted online at www.elections.saccounty.net. They can also attend community workshops, which will be held until June.

Public workshops to discuss the new district boundaries begin this week, but won't come near Rosemont until June. Nottoli will hold a meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on June 7 at the Rancho Cordova Library, 9845 Folsom Blvd. Click here to view a PDF file with the full workshop schedule.
