Shelter Offering Discounts for Animal Control Appreciation Week

Animal shelters across the country are honoring their employees this week, and the is offering adoption discounts to mark National Animal Control Appreciation Week.

From Wednesday through Saturday, people who adopt pets from the Bradshaw Road shelter will receive discounts by throwing a dart at a magnetic dartboard. The discounts can be as much as 50 percent depending where the dart lands, according to a press release.

The Sacramento County Department of Animal Care and Regulation highlighted some of its staff members' recent accomplishments, like confiscating 137 roosters and chickens from a cockfighting ring. The department responds to 1,600 calls each month and is "the largest agency in the County that investigates cases of cruelty and neglect," according to the press release.

"Our entire staff serve and protect Sacramento’s voiceless population so that even the tiniest creatures can be provided the highest quality of life possible,” the press release quoted Interim Animal Shelter Director Dave Dickinson as saying.
