Stabbing at Party Sends One to Hospital

A man was stabbed early Sunday, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said.

A 23-year-old man was stabbed early Sunday and is expected to survive after a large fight broke out at a party in Rosemont, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Dep. Jason Ramos said.

The department got a call reporting "approximately 50 people fighting" at a home on Oak Trail Court around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Ramos said in an email. Some of the combatants were reportedly armed with knives and guns, he said.

The department's helicopter was overhead within five minutes and saw several vehicles leaving the area traveling north on Thornhill Drive, Ramos said. Around the same time, the CHP received a 911 call "saying that someone was shooting at them so they were fleeing the scene, somewhere on Thornhill," Ramos said.

When deputies arrived at the home, they found a man with a stab wound to his stomach and several people who had to be ordered out of a tent in the backyard.

The victim was transported to UC Davis Medical Center, where he underwent surgery about an hour later and was expected to survive, Ramos said.
