Students at Merryhill Preschool(R) in Sacramento "Bugged Out" with Ladybug Release in Celebration of Earth Day

Preschoolers released 3,000 ladybugs into the environment to improve the health of local vegetation

Sacramento, Calif. (Apr. 23, 2015) – On April 22, students at Merryhill Preschool in Sacramento got a little “buggy” in celebration of Earth Day. With the help of parents and teachers, students scattered across the schoolyard and released thousands of ladybugs back into the environment on plants, flowers and trees. Dressed for the occasion, students wore red and black colors and ladybug hats. Students also participated in a parade before the ladybug release.

In the days leading up to Earth Day, students learned that ladybugs feed on insects that are harmful to gardens, trees and shrubs. Merryhill Preschool teaches the importance of community and exploring nature at a young age.
