Victim Named in Norcade Homicide

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office identified Joshua Baker on Wednesday as the man killed in the Rosemont area on May 28.

Baker, 18, was shot in the head during a large street fight between approximately 30 people on Norcade Circle, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.  Baker died of his wounds after being taken to a local hospital.

Law enforcement officials also announced on Wednesday they had found a weapon at the crime scene.  Jason Ramos, spokesman for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, said the gun recovered likely belonged to the victim and is not the murder weapon.

"We believe that the victim was an active part in the gunfight and that the gun we recovered from the scene is likely the one that he used during the gunfight," said Ramos.

News 10 reports Baker was actually found on the 2900 block of Folsom Boulevard, although the shooting took place on Norcade.  So far, the sheriff's department hasn't identified any suspects in the case and said the investigation is ongoing. 

Deputies have not linked gang violence to Baker's death.

"At this point, we don't think necessarily that any gang affiliation or gang rivalries are the main cause of this incident," said Ramos.
