Wolverines Play in Regional All-Star Game

Two Rosemont High School softball players competed in Wednesday's Evening Optimist High School All-Star Softball Game at Capital Christian High School.

Aleshia Ayers and Kiersten Jackson were both in the lineup at the game, an annual star-studded match-up between the area's best senior softball players.  Ayers and Jackson played on the South team, which was coached by Rosemont athletic director Bill Kapp.

The South team lost 10-5, but Kapp said the game was mostly a chance for outgoing seniors to have fun in their last high school performance.

"We wanted the kids to have fun and let every kid play," said Kapp. 

Ayers started for the South team, giving up two runs before leaving after two innings with a 5-2 lead.  She also went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.

Jackson also pitched, hurling one inning and went 0-1.

Kapp, coaching the event for the first time, said the evening was "surreal" and thought Wednesday's game was the most heavily attended Optimist All-Star Game he had seen.  By his count, nearly 300 spectators attended the game.

"I had a lot of girls come up to me and thank me for making it a fun experience," said Kapp.  "They're just a really good group."
