- Learn more about Derek Zachman and Ian Glass, the two South Placer County local boys who oversee operations at the golf course at Sun City Roseville, in this insightful interview. Their enthusiasm for the game might inspire you to get out and play a few holes. (Gold Country Media)
- The restoration of Dry Creek near Saugstad Park is so much more than just a flood prevention fix-er-up. Dubbed Roseville's "Crown Jewel" in this article (and it is, isn't it?) the quiet little waterway that softens our growing city's industrial edges with natural beauty is an important habitat link for many California salmon, 28 species of which are listed in the Endangered Species Act. City crews were finally able start the project this year thanks to $1.8 million in grant money through the California Natural Resources Agency’s California Urban Rivers Grant Program. Check out the great photos of the project in this article. (Comstock's Magazine)
- The Pfizer Inc./BioNTech SE COVID-19 vaccination became the first to get full Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approval for persons 16 and older yesterday. The formula was first approved for emergency use in December, with the recent full approval granted based on updated data from the clinical trial and manufacturing review. Pfizer Inc./BioNTech will seek full FDA approval for children ages 12 to 15 as soon as the required data is available. The vaccine will go by the name Comirnaty. (Reuters)
- Sierra College Boulevard, one of the busiest roadways in our area, is getting its much needed makeover this week. Look for city paving crews between Eureka Road and the southern city limits. The workers usually keep at least one lane open on multi-lane streets, but drivers should expect slowdowns. Keep on eye on the signs in the area. (City of Roseville)
- Penny pinchers, you may want to boogie on out to your preferred postage stamp purchase outlet this week and stock up. Rates go up on Sunday, August 29 as part of the U. S. Postal Service's 10-year schedule of increases to attain financial sustainability. Your regular sized letters will go up from 55 cents to 58 cents. So maybe get those Christmas card stamps now.
