Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. According to Roseville’s information officer for environmental utilities, Maurice Chaney, the city is considering adding a third recycling bin to our current curbside trash pickup system. The third bin is one option as Roseville makes moves to comply with SB-1383, the state’s law aimed at reducing methane emissions from landfills by composting organic waste (food scraps, etc.). The city conducted six-month pilot programs in two different Roseville neighborhoods to test out the third bin option and is currently doing a feasibility study before the final decision is made. (ABC 10)
  2. Our Roseville City Council approved names for the seven new parks currently in development during their meeting on Wednesday. Sadly, “Super Happy Fun Park” was not chosen for the park slated for the Campus Oaks neighborhood (see Thursday’s Daily). Three of the parks were named for people with a history of community service to the city. The other four parks were named for their neighborhood location. Check out all the names and locations of the upcoming parks in this article. (Gold Country Media)
  3. We’ve got some cool new stuff moving into the ‘Ville in the upcoming months! Local Kitchens, a Bay Area “micro food hall” where several restaurants are combined in one location, is opening at 10357 Fairway Drive (previously Daphne’s) in late February. There will be something for the whole family to choose from with Nash and Proper, Garden of Eat’n, The Melt, Senor Sisig and Curry Up Now under one roof. (ABC 10) Gucci, Zales and Round1 will open locations in the Galleria this spring, and optical retailer Warby Parker will move into the former Godiva Chocolatier space in the Galleria this summer. (ABC 10 and Subscription: Sacramento Business Journal)
  4. Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the Summer Concert Series at Thunder Valley Casino Resort — at least for the shows booked so far. (Casino VIPs get first crack at tickets today via an email link.) This year’s shows feature ZZ Top, Jeff Dunham, Tesla, Cedric the Entertainer, 38 Special and the V101.1 Summer Jam with Nelly, Blackstreet, Ginuwine and more. This will be the last concert season in the outdoor amphitheater before “The Venue” opens next year with 4,500 indoor seats. (Roseville Today)
