  1. The good news is that firefighters seem to have the River Fire on the ropes at last. The bad news: smoke from the River Fire, the Dixie Fire and other wildfires to the north of us are sending unhealthy levels of smoke into the valley. Placer County Public Health and the Placer County Air Pollution Control District have issued an air quality advisory that is expected to last through Sunday. The advisory is based on information from the National Weather Service, who forecasts of a wind shift expected to bring more smoke into our area. (Gold Country Media)
  2. The City of Roseville released more information related to the water conservation measures going into effect on Monday. Check out all the ways the city is attempting to diversify where we get water. Think of it as saving for a not-so-rainy day. (Press Release Desk)
  3. Striping and repainting work by city crews will close various levels of the Vernon Street Parking Garage at 405 Vernon Street beginning August 8th through the August 18th. Different floors will be closed at different times. We can expect the structure to open again on August 19th. Click on the link for more detailed information and a convenient map of alternative downtown parking locations. (City of Roseville)
  4. In other Roseville Public Works news, Blue Oaks Boulevard between Fiddyment Road and Crocker Ranch Road will get a re-paving facelift beginning August 10th. Expect delays if you travel that way and be sure to check the signs for any updates. (City of Roseville)
  5. In an unprecedented move, the Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the State Water Project operations managers made the decision to take the Hyatt Power Plant at Lake Oroville offline due to lack of sufficient water levels in Lake Oroville. It is the first time this plant has gone offline due to low lake levels. This possibility was predicted by the DWR, who has been in communication with the California Independent Service Operator (CAISO) and the California Energy Commission to try to mitigate the loss of power generation. The Edward Hyatt Power Plant is the largest underground pump-generating installation in the United States. (Roseville Today)
