Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:
- Saturday May 14 is Armed Forces Night at the American Speedway in Roseville! Races for the night include NASCAR/Berco Late Model Twins, Modifieds, Riebes Auto Parts Super Stocks, F4s, Jr. Late Models, Mini-Cup/Bando. And don't forget the ever-popular Trailer Bash! Gates open at 5 p.m. The opening ceremony starts at 6 p.m. Bring your favorite vet or active military and come early for some swag! The first 100 active military or vets through the door get the goodies. (Roseville Today)
- It's strawberry season and I LOVE strawberries! That's why I love this story from Gold Country Media. Did you know there's a place in Granite Bay where you can pick your own strawberries? If that's not enticing enough, how about TEN varieties of the sweet little nuggets? Head on out to the great outdoors with your little ones or your neighbors and find some vine ripe gems! YUMMMMMM!!!! (Gold Country Media)
- Maybe you've seen her dancing through the aisles of the supermarket in El Dorado Hills with her mom. Maybe it made you smile, but did you think that this teen might be on her way to the Joffrey Ballet School in New York? Her name is Kieley Leary and she's on her way, literally and figuratively! Kieley practices every day, without fail, from the moment she gets out of school on weekdays to the moment she wakes up on the weekends and it has paid off! She's earned herself a place at the world-renowned dance school. Way to go, Kieley! See more of her story here. (ABC10)
- Ugh. It's rattlesnake season, again. Since mid-March, Tyler Young from Placer Snake Removal has has managed to capture 40 rattlesnakes on residents’ properties in Grass Valley, Granite Bay, Loomis, Newcastle, and Penryn. He estimates a 50% increase in the number of snakes removed so far this year. How can you prevent snakes from nesting on your property? Cut the grass. Remove the debris. Get rid of anything that creates shade for these guys to rest in. (Roseville Press Tribune)
- Fourteen Lincoln High School senior athletes signed their National Letters of Intent to play their sport at the collegiate level on May 4. Signing were five football players, four softball players, two soccer players, two basketball players and one track athlete. They're going everywhere from Sioux City, Iowa to Fresno State. They all made it official last week at Lincoln High’s Dale Pence Gymnasium with hundreds of family members and peers there to witness the signing. (Lincoln News Messenger)
