Holidays in Nature

December 1, 2012; AUBURN, CA – Ever wonder why pine trees, holly, and mistletoe and more are used as decorations? Discover the stories behind of the age old tradition of decking the halls at the Placer Nature Center at 3700 Christian Valley Road, Auburn, CA 95602 on December 1st from 11AM to 2PM.

 Who was it that first decided to bring a tree indoors, anyways? Why are Poinsettia’s red in winter? Why does mistletoe, which is a parasitic plant, inspire people to kiss? Learn the legendary explanations to these questions and more. In addition to hearing the stories behind familiar seasonal greenery, guests will have the opportunity to use their senses to experience less traditional holiday plants. This fun-filled family event will include crafts made from both natural and recycled materials.

 Leave with charming handmade holiday decorations and a new appreciation for nature’s role inthe holidays. General Admission is $3 per person and Placer Nature Center member get in FREE.
