Kaiser Permanente in Roseville Celebrates Earth Day

Earth Day at Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center drew hundreds of physicians, employees and members who planted trees, learned about conservation, and observed what the hospital was doing to recycle medical supplies.

The celebration, held Thursday, April 18, brought 40 vendors to the hospital courtyard – ranging from Roseville Electric, to Breathe California, to Dry Creek Conservancy – who set up booths to share vital information about how best to protect the environment.

“This is really an awareness campaign to promote conservation, decrease the amount of waste that goes into landfills, and reduce greenhouse gasses,” said Tom Jones, manager of Kaiser Permanente’s Environmental Health & Safety Department.

Employees and patients at the celebration planted 43 trees around the campus at 1600 Eureka Road, to provide shade and absorb pollution.

Roseville Medical Center has had a long history protecting the environment, some of which is centered on recycling projects started by employees. Most recently, nurses and other staff members in Labor and Delivery identified materials that can be recycled, and since October, they have led an effort that has diverted 26 tons of plastic from landfills.
