San Francisco, September 17, 2012; The Masons of California teamed up with Junior Giants, the charitable flagship program of the San Francisco Giants Community Fund. During a pre-game ceremony before the game, a home plate ceremony took place which California Mason's Grand Master Frank Louie presented a check to Giants Hall of Famer Orlando Cepeda for $74,540 as part of its ‘Masons4Mitts’ program, which will provide 3,727 gloves for at-risk youth who participate in Junior Giants baseball.
Rainbow Girls from Roseville DeRiemer Assembly donated towards this charitable program as part of the Masonic Family. Since 1922, the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls in California has provided community service and developed the lesson of service in young women between the ages of 11 to 20 years. Our local Rainbow Girls from Roseville DeRiemer Assembly, have been serving our community for 35 years.
The mitts are emblazoned with the Masons logo, are given to at-risk youth who participate in the Junior Giants baseball program ages five through 18. About 20,000 children participate in the program each year, 45 percent of whom do not own a baseball glove. The program currently includes 80 leagues in 175 cities throughout Northern California with over 20,000 participants.
