Patients, visitors and employees at Sutter Roseville Medical Center’s campus now have a convenient new dining option in addition to Sierra Oaks Café in the main hospital. The Back Street Bistro opens its doors for lunch on the second floor of the Sutter Rehabilitation Institute on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
The new Back Street Bistro offers a wide selection of grab-and-go items, including homemade soups, sandwiches, salads, snack items, and bite-sized desserts. A small selection of short-order cookery, such as hamburgers, veggie burgers and grilled sandwiches and paninis, is also available. The bistro seats 45 people inside, and offers outdoor seating on an attractive deck overlooking the oak-studded Sutter Roseville Medical Center campus. Paintings and metalwork by local artists enhance the restaurant’s attractive interior.
“The Back Street Bistro gives employees of Sutter Rehabilitation Institute and nearby medical office buildings a quick and convenient dining option,” said Nancy Freitas, Nutrition and Food Services Director for Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

The Back Street Bistro is open Monday – Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Freitas says the restaurant’s hours may expand to include breakfast and/or dinner service as demand increases.
The restaurant opens its doors as part of a recent $8 million expansion of Sutter Rehabilitation Institute. In addition to the Back Street Bistro, the expansion increased the number of beds by 42 percent and added a full kitchen, doubling the rehab center’s space. Sutter Rehabilitation Institute opened in December 2008 as the Sacramento region’s first freestanding rehabilitation center designed specifically for inpatient rehabilitation.
