Here are the top stories today in Roseville:
- Congratulations to the award-winning artists in Blue Line Arts Comunidad exhibition celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! The winners include 1st Place: Eugene Rodriguez, 2nd Place: Oscar Ramos Rodriguez, 3rd Place: Audrey Rodriguez, and Honorable Mentions: Pablo Azar and Cheryl L. Guerrero. See their winning entries, and other works, in the gallery now. And mark your calendar for the October 16 event with artist lectures, art activities, murals, a reception and the People’s Choice Award announcement. (Press Release)
- It's no secret to us longtime residents that Roseville has undergone a serious metamorphosis from plucky little railroad town to bustling city in recent decades. Comstock Magazine included the 'Ville in its profile this month of Sacramento area suburbs that have experienced tremendous booms. Check out the interesting timeline and stats in the article, complete with a shoutout to Roseville's own (Wild) Bill Hill! (Comstock Magazine)
- Visiting Roseville's cool Historic District doesn't have to involve a stress-filled search for parking anymore. A lot with 150 free public parking spaces is now available at the northeast corner of Main and Lincoln Streets thanks to a five-year lease acquired by the City of Roseville. So go grab that coffee, eat that waffle, bust a move to that live music, get that tattoo ... you get the idea. Oh, and I've included a map of ALL the free public parking for Historic and Downtown Roseville here for you. You're welcome. (City of Roseville: Business Matters)
- The artists have completed the finishing touches on their masterpieces for Wide Open Walls 2021, the annual Sacramento Mural Festival that takes place every September. Started in 2016, the event sought to bring art to the public where they live and work, and to enliven spaces and alleyways throughout Sacramento. With the weather cooling down, it's a great time to take a tour of the diverse pieces. By the way, did you know Roseville has its own collection of public murals along the Vernon Street corridor? You can download a map for both cities - think of it as a cultural treasure hunt! (WideOpenWalls.com and BlueLineArts.com)
- Looking to gain more local control of how Medi-Cal is administered to its citizens, Placer County is exploring a new healthcare model. According to Director of Health and Human Services and Interim Health Officer Dr. Rob Oldham, the county is “eager to have more of a voice at the table to ensure our Medi-Cal beneficiaries are getting appropriate access to care that is tailored to the unique needs of our county." The new model could include an alliance with Partnership HealthPlan of California, doing away with the current partnership Placer County has with Anthem Blue Cross and California Health & Wellness that has been in place since 2013.
