Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:
- Two teens from Oakland have been arrested following a chase that ended in a collision in Rocklin. The teens were arrested and booked on charges including driving a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. Per FOX40 News "On Sunday, police said they spotted a stolen vehicle in the 5700 block of Fairway Drive in front of a music shop. ... The stolen vehicle entered Highway 65 and then went back onto city streets where it crashed at Fairway Drive and Marlee Way in the city of Rocklin, according to police." (KTXL FOX 40 Sacramento)
- Roseville students returned to school this week with new bell schedules due to state law that says middle school students may not start before 8 a.m. and high school students may not start before 8:30 a.m. While some students like the additional time to sleep in, it's impacting other families and students in ways they are just starting to understand. Some things the district is looking at is whether an additional nutrition break is needed because lunches at the high school level are being pushed so late. Others are more worried about extra-curricular activities that are now ending an hour later, pushing homework time to later in the evening and potentially impacting students even more than an earlier start time did. The district us asking for input from parents and students and has left open the possibility of adjusting bell schedules again at the semester break. (ABC10.com KXTV)
- On August 5 two different retail stores in Roseville were robbed with the suspects taking around $950 in merchandise from each. "Roseville police said four men walked into a retail store on the 1100 block of Galleria Boulevard and stole numerous items worth over $950. About 20 minutes later, police said the same men entered another store on the 6000 block of Stanford Ranch Road and again stole multiple items worth over $950." Based on a description of the getaway vehicle, police made a felony stop at along I-80. They found stolen merchandise in the trunk and arrested the suspects. The four 18-year-olds were identified as Ly and Cho Duong, from the Sacramento area, and Khailijah Saelee and James Salvatierra, both from the Anderson area. All four were booked into the South Placer Jail on multiple charges. (KRCR)

The board has agreed to continue the relationship with Moore Iacofano Goltsman, Inc., of Berkeley, in addressing the county homeless response. According to the staff report, Phase 2 of the response will include building upon the potential strategies identified in the first phase, implementation and funding of an action plan. - Holy Moly! Look at the size of these fish!! Friends of Auburn Ravine has been using video cameras to count salmon as they swim through Lincoln since the fall of 2016 and this year is a bumper crop! Between mid-October and January they've videoed over 350 adult fall run chinook salmon swimming up Auburn Ravine through Lincoln. That's the most ever in one season. And the fish are whoppers, with most of them being between 2 and 3 feet long! That's good news for the wildlife that feed off the salmon. "As we processed the video from our overhead camera, we saw an otter taking home a big meal for its family. The otter swimming downstream in this video clip is about four feet long and the salmon is about three feet long." That's one happy otter! (Gold Country Media)
