RHS Alumni Association - Centennial Celebration

For the past several months, information has been released about the upcoming Centennial Celebration which recognizes and celebrates the 100th anniversary of Roseville High School and the Roseville Joint Union High School District.  Well designed and striking boulevard banners are gracing Vernon Street, and members of the Roseville High School Alumni Association have manned a booth at several of the recent Downtown Tuesday Night events. 

At first glance, a casual observer may not catch the significance of a 100 year centennial celebration.  For most of us, this is the only opportunity we will have to recognize and share this historic milestone.  If we are old enough to remember this event, the chances are very good we will not be around to recognize the next or 200^th anniversary!  Roseville High School and the Roseville Joint Union High School District place a strong emphasis on educating our children, providing them a safe environment in which to learn, and playing an influential part in the emotional development of our children.  The planned Centennial Celebration events reflect on the rich history of Roseville, capture the traditions and customs of the past, and recognize the powerful role education has in the development and growth of our community.  Sharing the excitement and enthusiasm of this 100^th anniversary is a great way to reach out to the community and encourage people of all ages to remember the significance of a solid high school education.  Whether students choose to end their formal education upon graduation from high school or continue to a trade school or college, the first step is to complete high
school. 

The RHS Alumni Association working cooperatively with the Roseville Joint Union High School District and Roseville High School, encourage participation from all students, both alumni and current, in these Centennial Celebration events.  As an example, Daniel Wetter, a current student and rising Junior, is developing a virtual tour of the Roseville High School campus.  This virtual tour uses current technology and QR codes which will be placed on historically significant buildings around campus.  Scanning the QR codes with a smart phone launches an audio and visual presentation explaining the significance of that specific building.  This tour can be linked to both the Roseville High School and the Alumni Association web pages and allows prospective students, alumni, and others to tour the campus from anywhere in the world.  Interestingly, the equipment used to accomplish the virtual tours was donated to the school by the Alumni Association as part of a previous year’s fulfillment of a “Teachers’ Wish List”.   This is a perfect example of bridging the gap between 100 years of history, embracing current technology and preserving it for future generations.

Much of our information released to date has been about specific events and/or sales opportunities – and that will continue.  But the emphasis today is to recognize the value of education, the powerful influence that community has on maturing youth, and to provide local businesses an opportunity to become a recorded part of history.  Because we recognize that many local businesses want to support the Centennial Celebration, we have sponsorship opportunities available.  Join our growing list of corporate sponsors for the Centennial Celebration events.

Additionally, the RHS Alumni Association extends an invitation to all local area businesses who desire to have their business name listed in the Centennial Yearbook, currently under development and expected to be released late in 2012.  As a community member, choosing to participate in this way ensures your company will be recognized forever.  So when a second hundred years pass, in 2112 when people review the current Centennial Yearbook and reflect on the past 100 years, even though you are not around, your company name will be recognized and remembered.  Yearbook sponsorship levels start as low as $50.  Details can be found by visiting www.RosevilleHighAlumni.org and then click on “Announcements” on the left hand side of the page, scroll down about half way and click on “click here for sponsorship form”.   Print the form, fill it out and mail it to the RHS Alumni Association, P.O. The Centennial Celebration starts with a homecoming game on Friday, September 14^th as we play our cross town rival, Oakmont. An Open Campus Day at Roseville High School is scheduled for Saturday, September 15^th and is a terrific opportunity for the local community to tour and visit the school.  Sunday, September 16^th, is our Centennial Celebration Picnic, to be held at Woodbridge Park, from 11am – 4pm.
